Overview
Are you a young person and ready for the next stage in your development as a documentary filmmaker?
The BFI Film Academy scheme provides opportunities for talented and committed young people between the ages of 16–19 to develop new skills and build careers in the film industry. The BFI Film Academy is committed to providing these opportunities for young people, regardless of where they live or their background. DAWN is an exciting programme, which you attend over the half term weekend and other weekends either in South Wales.
Details of the third DAWN programme in 2015 will be announced shortly.
During our intensive programme, you will:
A) Have fun!
B) Develop an understanding of:
creating film ideas
researching
pitching
producing (inc. finance and legals)
filming and post-production
marketing, exhibition and distribution
C) Develop of an understanding of your own skills and an appreciation of where these skills could take you in this industry
D) Discover new films and new approaches to film-making
E) Develop a network of creative contacts and established practitioners across your region with on-going activities and a designated closed Facebook group
F) Work in a team of 2 or 3 to create a 2-minute documentary in response to a set brief
We will:
A) Offer masterclasses, personal development advice, hands on workshops, networking, screenings and discussions
B) Offer mentoring from successful graduates from University degrees, who are running production companies
C) Offer a screening at the Zoom Film Festival in March 2016 for you to get together and celebrate
D) Offer personal development planning from established careers advisors and staff from BECTU and the host Universities
E) Offer access to Ffilm Cymru Wales feature film productions through contact with film-makers
